The need to adress, anyone got some pointers?

Posted by JonHunter - September 28th, 2011

Hey guys. Last time I wrote anything here was about a month ago about my trip to Decibel. And honestly, not much has been going on since. I've been pretty busy with school and life. And it shames me, but maybe others have gone through this phase too.(?) I'm all out of inspiration.

Before I bore you out with my crappy stories and ideas, check this track out..
Listen

I hardly write small scripts on my computer anymore,
I don't imagine stories while walking home. It's been a blank. I also dropped my StarCraft 2 Animation spoof. I didn't write too much about it. And it shames me that I did. I put down a lot of effort into the style of it. And perhaps that was the problem, it became waay too time consuming.

Anyway, here's 2 links you could check out to see what I managed to do. I'm actually VERY proud of myself for managing to create the light in the fire scene.
Dancing Robogirl
Firy Firebat Scene, toast them roaches!

I think one of the reasons I won't be able to keep up that style is because all I used to draw this was a crummy mouse from Dell. Blah!

----------------------

Anyway, I might get back to that project, but lower the quality a lot more. Still have some good script ideas for it. But for now, let me ask you what you think about these 3 ideas (If you could spare some time on a poor fella from Sweden):

1: This is for School, it's about making an interactive story. At first I got all bored and thought to myself, isn't this what 5-year olds enjoy? Then I got this inspirational idea from a lot of games and stories I've been checking out. What about an interactive story, that puts you in a moral conflict?
That in the end, could give you the result of what your choices made you become? The setting would be very twisted, and I got untill December the 20th something to finish it. Whaddya think?

2: A comedy Flash about a guy doing random shit to find inspiration into making a flash?

3: A Halloween Flash about an Australian Crocodile hunter who decides to find himself some Halloween monsters.

Wow.. I just realised all my journal posts here are amazingly huge.. I bet nobody cares to read them either way, but it eases my mind to have the ideas written down somewhere atleast. Rather than the ideas being stuck to my head.

You should keep going with your animation, its lookin' good. I think the reason you probably don't get a lot of responses is due to two reasons. 1: People may not have anything to add and 2: Update your user Pics, your talent at drawing is obviously up to par for better pictures. People do read your stuff, and your first idea was a really good one. It gave me an idea also for another interactive story. What if it was an action one that had multiple choices that you click on which show flash clips of the action that progress you through the story. For example, kick door, go around side, climb roof. So you pick kick door. When the door is kicked, monster or something tackles him and they fight, out comes a knife. Bite, head butt, knee. The store is a soldier/space marine/mercenary is just trying to get home. Spend some time on making some really good animations like your Firy Firebolt scene and I think it would be cool.

Sort of an interactive thing for adults. The other two ideas are too vague to give you any ideas or judge em. If you are not feeling inspired, jump on the forums and just talk to people, or try different venues, like music, or just art/fan art. Something thats fun and shakes it up so its not the same stuff all the time. We all become uninspired all the time, but don't lose steam, and push through it :D

Thanks for the awesome response dude! I have never actually seen you, but you have good ideas. Also great patience for writing such a constructive comment. Considering that I am not this huge artist, just this local dimwitted user.

Anywho;
1: Nah I know, I write a lot of crap.. I should start writing about them, in order to get responses. It's not my wish to get a bunch of comments like the big artists, my wish is only to get some sort of "hm, do this do that to improve". But most of all, get to know more people in the genré of animating and such. Since I don't know anyone in it.

2: Aw man I'm too lazy. Someday! It's inspired from the poster to Vanilla Sky, I think that's why I like it.

(3): Yeah, thanks. This confirms my belief. This hasn't really been done before neither. I also want to introduce the NG-users to the very weird, but awesome dance genré known as Hardstyle. And try to use it, and animate it according to the track and it's BPM.

Perhaps our paths will cross again man! Till then, peace out!

Don't drop animations ever. Just pop 'em on the side and save 'em for later. I've had projects that lay dormant for half a year sometimes longer before I finish.

Ya lose the drive or motivation for certain things sometime. It just takes time to get 'em back or a few months of R&R to recharge the artist within. It looks good. Don't drop it. Be confident.

Nah I know. I saved every file, in hopes of returning to it.
Either way, I learnt a lot of stuff from these animations. Which is always something that made it all worth it! Thanks by the way

You know, that scene with the fire is pretty good in it's own right. and the robot chick is interesting. Why not just do a bunch of unrelated 5 second clips and cut them together like robot chicken. That way you don't have to maintain any big interest in a single project.

Thanks, and this is something I've been interested in doing actually. Robot Chicken styled animation, tried doing something like that for Gears of War, but I didn't really get around to finishing it.
